I learned a lot today and I’m still feeling good about my performance. She told me today that she thinks I’m ready to start doing preflight without her. My taxiing continues to improve.  Today we practiced slow flight, stalls, 45 degree turns and landings.  I feel like I’m picking things up pretty well.  I just need some more practice.  My landings are very rough, of course.  I’m sure that’s to be expected so I’m not discouraged by it.  I can’t even express how excited I am each lesson.

Oh and I got my Medical and Student Pilot Certificate with no problems yesterday.  I was ecstatic.  I have no clue why I was so nervous about getting it.  I guess I thought it was going to be harder and that I would have to face some horribly devestating obstacle soon.  *Knock on wood* I just like it too much and that seems to be my luck.  I wanted to hug the Doc when he gave it to me.  lol

So today was what I think is the best lesson yet.  I finally, FINALLY got the ‘feel’ of the plane.  Yeah, I know… seems like I should have had it before now, but I didn’t! lol  Every other lesson, I have to admit, I’ve been a little nervous and spent way too much time trying to figure out what all the instruments do keeping my eyes on them when I should be looking out.  Today, I felt comfortable, and I felt confident.  I think it made a HUGE difference in my performance.  We checked weather before we left and boy was it off.  The clouds were a LOT lower and visibility was horrible.  We spent much of the time just dodging clouds, but I was comfortable and I had a BLAST.  The most fun I’ve had since I started my lessons. I didn’t really learn much new but I think this may have been a milestone lesson. I’m hoping anyways. Wow!!!!  I’m having so much fun. I love it!  I can’t wait for my next lesson on Friday.

Oh, and I take my flight physical tomorrow!!! :0) fly-001.JPG  fly-002.JPG

I had another lesson today.  I don’t feel like I did so great.  I have no clue why, but I felt a little nervous today.  I did really great with preflight again and she even commented on how much my taxiing had improved. But I didn’t even feel as confident about the 30 degree turns as I did on the last lesson.  Hmmmm… don’t know what that’s about.  But I did have a freaking blast so it hasn’t discouraged me. She simulated an engine failure and lead me through the proceedures for that.  I learned a lot today and I think at the end of the lesson I MAY have finally broke myself of wanting to pull back on the yoke too much.  lol  All in all, I think the lesson was successful and I’m excited about Tuesday.  The Plane

Stupid Weather

I got cancelled yesterday. Stupid weather!!!!!  I had to reschedule for Friday.  My CFI was pretty booked up this week.  We did get to go over a little preflight before deciding to reschedule though.  I appreciated that.  I need all the help and practice I can get.  I remembered a lot more than I thought I did.  I think I did pretty good.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed and begging the Heavens that the weather is agreeable Friday.

My First Lesson

Filed under: Getting my PPL — pamgagliani at 7:05 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2007

I had previously taken a introductory lesson but today was my very first flight lesson.  Wow… I think I’m already an addict.  I’m giddy; I can’t stop smiling.

So, I’m learning in a C-172, flying out of ORK. Today we, of course, spent quite a bit of time going over preflight proceedures. I actually remembered quite a bit of that from the intro lesson. So then we decided to go up and she let me take off and fly around for a bit to get the feel of the plane and then we worked on 30 degree turns, and constant rate climbs and descents, as well as airport familiarization. The 30 degree turns were a little scary for me at first, but after about 3 or 4 180degree turns in each direction I was feeling pretty confident about them.  The flaps stopped working as we were coming in for a landing though so I didn’t get to help much at all with that.  Next time, I’m sure.

Although I’m not scared of heights, it’s hard to get used to that feel of “there’s not below me!”  It’s such a thrill.

So, my next lesson is Tuesday and I’m ecstatic.  I absolutely cannot wait.  I’m supposed to study preflight proceedures so that before our next flight I can lead her through preflight.  Wow, there was so much information to take in today.  I hope that I’ll retain it and only build more knowledge during my next lesson!
